Nuts have been a part of the human diet for since the beginnings of history. &nbsp;Iraq, has long history with walnuts and its estimated that &nbsp;walnut remains can be traced as far back 7,000 B.C. There is also research to suggest that English walnuts came from ancient Persia, and were supposed to be for royalty. &nbsp;One of the popular flavors added to coffee these days is hazelnut. &nbsp;Hazelnuts are the fruit of the hazel. Hazelnuts and Chestnuts often get confused so clarify, the main difference between a Hazelnut and Chestnut is that the Hazelnut is a nut of the hazel tree and Chestnut is a genus of plants. &nbsp;Nuts are very healthy and among them especially the Macadamia nut as it contains more heart-healthy monounsaturated fat per serving than any other nut. If you need more zinc or magnesium in your diet, look no further than the healthy cashew. &nbsp;All in all nuts provide a great source of nutrients and should strongly be considered as a viable snack the next time you are reaching for that bag of chips.

In the United States of America people are very fond of watermelons, especially in the summertime. &nbsp;On any given day in August you can find Americans consuming delicious watermelons at backyard barbecues, picnics, and just relaxing at home with a nice plate of watermelon. &nbsp;Oddly enough, most people would probably associate watermelons as a fruit, but they are actually considered both fruit and vegetable. &nbsp;In 2007 Oklahoma even declared watermelon as the state vegetable. &nbsp;Nearly 70 percent of watermelons are grown in four states ( California, Texas, Florida and Georgia ) with Florida having the distinction of the top producing state with about 4 billion pounds grown each year. &nbsp;Many cities in the U.S. have watermelon festivals, but the town of Hope, Arkansas &nbsp;claims the title as showcasing the world's largest watermelons at their annual watermelon festival since 1926. &nbsp;According to The Guinness Book of World Records, the heaviest watermelon ever weighed in at an astonishing 262 lbs! &nbsp;

National Watermelon Day

Over the years there has been a significant increase in visitors to our national parks. &nbsp;Visitors from all over the world come to visit parks across the United States of America. &nbsp;The huge number of people has also come at a cost, as there has been much wear and tear on the land and water in these areas. &nbsp;In order to help maintain the beauty and conservation of these lands, &nbsp;the land and water conservation fund was established by congress in 1965 with an estimated authorized funding cap of 900 million dollars. &nbsp;Unfortunately congress has continually funded only a fraction of that amount. The fund has been crucial helping states with many projects that continue to maintain the preservation of public lands. &nbsp;In 2020 President Donald Trump asked congress to come up with a bill that would provide more adequate funding, and ensure future preservation of the land and water in and around our national parks and public lands. &nbsp;On August 4th, 2020 congress did exactly that with the passing of the Great American Outdoors Act and the bill was signed by President Trump. Many &nbsp;organizations and people that have long advocated for this type of increased funding to address the decline of public lands have said this is the most important conservation legislation ever passed in the United States.&nbsp;

Today we celebrate National Aviation Day as well as the &nbsp;birthday of Orville Wright. &nbsp;In 1903 along with his brother Wilbur, the Wright brothers successfully made a flight in the worlds first motor operated airplane. &nbsp;The brothers are also credited with inventing airplane controls that enabled fixed wing powered flight to happen. &nbsp;Aviation continues to advance in many areas from large passenger planes to the new speed and stealth technology in military aircraft. &nbsp;The SR-71 Blackbird is currently the worlds fastest airplane at 2,190 mph, a bit faster than the Wight brothers Wright Flyer at an estimated 30 mph speed. Aviation has changed our daily lives and made the world smaller. &nbsp;According to skyscanner.com, there is an average of 9,728 planes in the sky at any one time, carrying approximately 1,270,406 people. &nbsp;Many people are continue to be fascinated by the idea of flight, and can even get involved in the most simple ways such as building a paper airplane. &nbsp;Some of the longest flights of paper planes have flown over 200 feet! &nbsp;In United States one of the most popular aviation movies of all time is Top Gun.

People have been making waffles for many years, dating all the way back to Medieval times and they have been called many names in different areas of the world. &nbsp;Long ago in Greece they were called obelios and made by cooking a mixture of flour, water, milk, and eggs between two hot iron plates. After spreading throughout Europe.. Belgium specifically had a knack for making a style of waffle called the Liege Waffle. &nbsp;Even today Belgian waffles are known as the best in the world. &nbsp;If you are fortunate to travel to the capital Brussels, make sure you stop by either the little stand called Vitalgaufre or the famous Maison Dandoy both eateries are known for serving the best Liege and Brussels Waffles in the area. &nbsp;In the United States most people are very familiar with the popular restaurant chain named Waffle House and then if prepared at home, the Eggo brand of frozen waffles are apart of many American household daily breakfasts.&nbsp;

Ah.. man's best friend, today is National Dog Day. &nbsp;Not to be confused with "dog days" which is a reference to hot, sticky summer days. Today we pay tribute to our beloved dogs. &nbsp;As domesticated animals, dogs have helped man with all types of work, &nbsp;from pulling sleds in Alaska to help rounding up cattle in Wyoming as well as woking security. &nbsp;Dogs are very loyal and will listen and give affection with no conditions. &nbsp;It has been said that you can understand much about the owner of a dog by the breed of dog they own. &nbsp;Some dogs are very friendly and make great family pets, as they are good with children. &nbsp;Other dogs that have been bred over the years as working dogs tend to need more attention given to them when their younger to develop into a softer and friendly relationship the owner. &nbsp;There have been many movies about dogs that illustrate our affection for dogs,such as the popular children's animation film 101 Dalmatians and the movie about Jack London's book "Call of the Wild"
