When it comes to Data Privacy it is a subject that should be near and dear to all of us as the digital age continues to integrate more and more into the fabric of our daily lives. The first modern data privacy law began in Germany as computing advancements and privacy in the processing of personal data started to concern citizens. Officially Sweden is credited with pioneering the first national privacy law called the Data Act, which criminalized the act of stealing somebody's data in 1973. A few years later, Germany passed the German Federal Data Protection Act establishing basic data protection standards that have been the framework for security laws around the world. One of the key aspects to the law was the requirement of consent for the processing of personal data. Recently as data breaches continue to grow in the modern world, the biggest set of data privacy laws ever have again come from Europe with the GDPR. The General Data Protection Regulation is defined as a legal framework that sets guidelines for the collection and processing of personal information from individuals who live in the European Union.
