Unfortunately more than 300,000 children have been held captive or unwillingly trained to fight for causes around the world by armed group and militias. 


Henry Dunant, the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross was instrumental in forming what would be the Geneva Conventions.  Even though the framework was initiated before World War II, the conventions were revised after the second world war and received international recognition by 1949.  The purpose of the conventions is to safeguard the human rights of individuals involved in conflict.  and work in the same fashion as the Hague Conventions, which is recognized around the world as trying to organize and define the laws of war.  After much atrocities where uncovered after the war and many attempts where made by the international community to not allow such actions to take place again, and to introduce a set of standards or conduct that would be mutually agreed upon by nations around the world. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights  declaration was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948 and urges member nations to promote universally accepted ideas of freedom and human rights.
