Description

The modern piano was created in Italy in the early 1700's.  Mozart is considered by many to be one of the worlds greatest pianists.  Other notable classical pianists include: Ludwig Van Beethoven, and Frederic Chopin.  In our modern era Billy Joel and Elton John come to mind when thinking of popular musicians where the piano is often the featured musical instrument used in their songs. There are a few type of Grand Pianos,  where the frame and strings are horizontal. These pianos are very beautiful crafted pieces of art and sound as elegant as they look, which is why they are a very coveted in many residences. The first type is the and the smallest of the three is the Baby Grand about 4-5 feet in size. The second one is the Parlor Grand with a size about 5-7 feet and the last is the Concert Grand which is the largest at 7-9 feet.  One of the most recognizable names in piano making comes from American piano company Steinway & Sons ( Steinway )  there is even a stunning example of Grand piano featured in the White House.

Interesting Facts

  1. According to Pianist Magazine, Sitting in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is the world's oldest piano. Dating from 1720, the piano was one of the earliest creations by Bartolomeo Cristofori, the inventor of the piano.
  2. Wladziu Valentino Liberace was one of world's most flamboyant and famous Pianist, known for playing a crystal covered and gold plated pianos.
  3. Elton John used a $1 million dollar piano during his shows in Las Vegas.
  4. One of the most requested songs at dueling piano bars is "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond.
  5. The world's oldest piano still exists and is located at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
