Get together with family and friends and put together a jigsaw puzzle.  Find your old Rubiks Cube and see if you still remember how to solve it.  Fill out the daily crossword puzzle in your local paper.


According to The Guinness Book of World Records, "Memorable Disney Moments" is the largest puzzle weighing 44 pounds and containing over 40,000 pieces.


Often when most people think of puzzles, they think of the jig saw puzzles that were created as far back as the 1700's by european map makers. Today jig saw puzzles are created as entertaining hobbies as well as educational materials. The WASGIJ jig saw puzzles are considered among the most difficult because the picture on the box is not what the finished scene looks like.  Later another type of puzzle was invented in early 1900 with the word related Crossword Puzzle,  and continues to be filled out and commonly found in each day in the daily newspaper.  There is even an annual tournament where crossword enthusiasts get together to compete completing the puzzles in record time.  Another type of popular puzzle today are the brain teaser type of metal puzzle, that come in all kinds of configurations and usually involve untangling one piece from another.

  1. The Rubiks Cube is one of the most popular puzzles in the world and and at 45 years old, is still a hot seller.  The puzzle has sold over an estimated 350 million copies.
  2. The record for the most expensive jigsaw puzzle ever sold, was done so at a charitable art auction to benefit a non-profit organization The Golden Retriever Foundation and sold for $27,000.
  3. The World's Smallest Jigsaw Puzzle has 234 of the smallest pieces ever to be die-cut into a puzzle.
  4. The five most popular type of puzzles are 1. Jigsaw 2. Logic 3. Mechanical 4. Trivia 5. Word.
  5. The American Crossword Puzzle Tournament is an annual event where fans and experienced puzzle solvers come together to compete in solving Crossword Puzzles edited by Will Shortz.
