Christmas time is in December and the weather is usually cold, which means we all start wearing sweaters to keep warm during the holidays.  One of the Christmas gifts that many people can remember receiving by their good intention relatives is a sweater.  The sweater gift is often not what most people want and especially when the sweater style is usually that of parents or grandparents generation.  Nobody knows exactly where the tradition of ugly sweater day comes from,  after years of people receiving ugly sweaters,  people decided if you can't beat them then you might as well join them.  Ugly sweaters started to become all the rage and even considered en vogue at company Christmas parties and have become a new tradition in their own right.  Today there are stores that specifically sell intentionally extra ugly and humorous looking sweaters with loud colors or images of funny pop culture icons or animals.  These days its not so bad if your Aunt gifts you the ugliest sweater you have ever seen, now you can wear it as a badge of honor when invited to an ugly sweater party.
